How long is an Express Entry profile valid?

12 months from the day IRCC receives it. If you aren't invited in that time, the profile expires and you can create a new one, as long as you still meet the requirements.

How many days do I have after an Express Entry ITA?

60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence. If you don't submit in time, the invitation expires.

How long are TCF Canada and TEF Canada results valid for Express Entry?

They must be less than 2 years old when you create your profile and when you submit your application. If they turn 2 years old while you're in the pool, your profile is no longer eligible until you add newer results. Check your exact dates with the results and validity calculator.

How old can my police certificate be for Express Entry?

For the country where you live now, it must be issued no more than 6 months before you submit your application. For countries you've left, there's no maximum age, as long as it was issued after your last stay of 6 months or more there.

When should I do my medical exam for Express Entry?

After you receive your invitation and before you submit your application. Results are valid for 12 months and must still be valid when you land in Canada.

What happens if my language test expires while I'm in the pool?

Your profile is no longer eligible from the day the result turns 2 years old. Take a new test and update your profile with the new results. Retake early, because results take several weeks.

Plan ahead

How to never miss an Express Entry deadline

Watch your oldest document, not your profile
A language result that turns 2 years old removes your profile from the pool before its 12 months are up. If yours expires soon, book your TCF Canada or TEF Canada early: results take weeks.
Get police certificates early, except one
Certificates from countries you've left have no maximum age, so order them while you wait in the pool. The one for the country where you live must be under 6 months old, so time it with your invitation. See the police certificate guide.
Use the 60 days for the slow parts
Reference letters, proof of funds and the medical exam take the longest. Work through the ITA checklist the day you're invited.
Submit with a margin
Uploads fail and documents get rejected. Aim to submit a week before your deadline, and before any document turns too old.
